How Do I Become Zumba Instructor

The first step to becoming a Zumba Instructor is to register for one of Zumba workshops. There are various workshops that you can attend such as Basic Zumba, Gold Zumba, Zumbatomic, Basic 2 Zumba etc. It is recommended that you start with basic Zumba . You can register by going to the site zumba.com and choose instructor training button. Then you can locate the instructor class on your area. Depending where you live, there may not be the chance to attend Zumba certification class right away. Once you find the class closest to you (mind you, it may not be in your neighbourhood at all. Even though I live in a large city, I traveled for my class about 500 km!), register ASAP as those classes fill quickly.
Zumba Fitness LLC does not require you to have any pre-requisites (such as fitness or dance background) to teach Zumba although having previous experience in those two fields will definitely be helpful for you to deliver quality Zumba class to your clients. Participants for Zumba instructor training should be 18 or older. Younger participants shout contact Zumba Fitness LLC. and ask permission for attendance. Sometimes allowances are made for younger participants.
Once you have finished the one-day or two-day Zumba Basic Workshop, you are allowed to teach Zumba, use the "Zumba" name in your class title or promotional materials, and call yourself a Zumba Instructor. Any other use of the Zumba name or logo (such as having a website with word “Zumba” in your URL, or having a logo on your website) must be approved by the Zumba Corporate office. They will ask you to join ZIN (that is, Zumba Instructor Network) and then you will have those privileges as well.
Please know that Zumba Fitness is a registered trademark of Zumba Fitness, LLC, which holds copyright ownership on all Zumba related material and use of name and logo. Anyone who teaches Zumba without having a current Certificate of Completion would be in infringement of trademark and copyright laws.
After the Zumba Workshop, you will be given your Zumba Instructor certificate and you can start teaching whenever you feel ready. Every Zumba Instructor is an independent contractor, so you will be in charge of looking for places to teach, negotiating your contract, set up your own schedule, rates, terms, agreements, etc. with whichever facilities you choose. It is importnat to know that unless you are a ZIN member, your certification will expire in one year and then you will need to finish the instructor class again if you want to continue to teach Zumba.
Some fitness facilities require their instructors to have other fitness certification such as general group exercise certificate as they consider Zumba as a specialty class just like Pilates or Yoga. Most fitness facilities want to ensure that their instructor have related background and experience to safely teach a fitness class regardless of that kind the class is. It is also important form a legal perspective in case that some of the clients sustain an injury during the class.
Therefore it is wise to determine where you would like to teach and what certificates or qualifications you are required to have. You can finish your Zumba certificate first and then work on your general fitness certification.. Some facilities may allow you to teach Zumba while completing your general fitness certification even though you have not finished it yet. For example, two highly recognized certifications are ACE, AFAA, or CanFitPro for Canada.
